Launch of a confectionery company

Although the official date of Candy Loft’s launch is considered to be 1920, its historical origins go back to the middle of the 19th century. It all started with William Loft, who moved to live in New York from England. He was very smart and enterprising, so he decided to open his own small business. Choosing a confectionary niche, Loft established a small sweet shop in Lower Manhattan in the 1860s. An interesting fact about this shop is that Loft made all the confectionery in the family kitchen.
His two sons soon joined Loft’s confectionery business. At the end of the 19th century, they managed to develop their father’s business well and opened several more sweet shops in New York. Also, the production of confectionery products has increased significantly. In particular, it was transferred from a small family kitchen to a huge factory.
In the first half of the 20th century, Candy Loft became one of the most successful confectionery companies in the United States. It was here that they produced the widest range of sweets and treats that people of all ages liked.
What made the company successful and why was it closed?

One of the key success factors of Candy Loft was the quality of the products. The company was known for using only the best ingredients, as well as producing sweets according to ancient proven recipes that were passed down from generation to generation. It was this devotion to quality that helped Candy Loft create a huge network of loyal customers who loved and trusted the company and its products.
Another factor contributing to Candy Loft’s success was innovative marketing strategies. The company actively used advertising to promote its products. In addition, the company’s products had very beautiful and bright packaging that attracted people’s attention. Sometimes real crowds gathered at the windows and stood in a long line for their favorite candies.
One of the most famous products of Candy Loft was a chocolate bar. In addition to the popular chocolate bar, the company produced many other sweets and treats, namely:
- chocolate
- caramel
- toffee
- lollipops
- cakes
- chewing gums
- and more.
The second half of the 20th century was difficult for the Candy Loft company. There was a long recovery after the economic crisis and wars. The management of the company changed very often. If in the first half of the 20th century, more and more new retail outlets were opened in the USA, in the second half of the 20th century their number began to decrease.
In 1971, Candy Loft was acquired by Southland Corporation. A year later, Southland Corporation together with Candy Loft became the property of Barricini Candies. More than 30 confectionery stores in 11 states were closed within a year. In 1976, the company, along with the factory and more than two hundred stores in New York, was sold again. As of the mid-1980s, only 40 Candy Loft stores were operating in New York. And at the end of the 1980s, Candy Loft was completely renamed and all remaining stores were closed. Such significant changes caused the collapse of the entire confectionary empire with a long history. Candy Loft completely ceased to exist in 1994. The unsurpassed taste of this company’s candies will forever remain in the memory of many residents of New York and America.
